Chew on This – Mar 2018
In addition to sharing recipes and homemade dishes at members’ houses (see December blog), learning more about a single culinary topic at a “salon,” (see Jan-Feb blog) and taking field trips to regional foodie locales, Guild members also love to check out restaurants, both old and new.
This month, 20+ members trekked in to Beacon Hill in Boston to enjoy classic French fare at an adorable little bistro called MA MAISON. It’s where chef Jacky Robert cooked in the 1970s when his uncle, Lucien Robert, opened the first-ever French fine dining restaurant in the city — MAISON ROBERT.
Jacky’s kept abreast of changes within the realm of French cuisine throughout his 40+ years behind the stove. At this intimate Supper Club event, he briefly shared some highlights of his early years, as our group chowed down on smoked salmon, velvety lobster bisque, country pork pate, striped bass and massive mugs of chocolate mousse.
We’d barely digested all that, when we began planning for similar Supper Club events. On April 8, we’ll enjoy northern Italian cuisine at LA MORRA in Brookline, and on May 5, a day-long field trip to Portsmouth, NH will culminate in a chef’s menu at the acclaimed BLACK TRUMPET BISTRO there.
Another field trip, this time to the Berkshires in June, will feature an entire weekend of food and fun, including a backyard BBQ at the home of Membership Chairperson Lisa Jaco
Follow your bi-monthly e-newsletter (do DO read them, don’t you?) for the latest on these and other exceptional Culinary Guild events we’ll be presenting for the rest of the year. We’re also active on Facebook and Instagram, where this month we posted a 3-part video salute to longtime Guild supporter, Verrill Farm in Concord.
